TOP 5 PLACES TO SAIL THIS WINTER
The kids may still be enjoying their summer holidays, and our days are still long, but it’s time to look forward to getting some adventure time this winter. For some, the words “winter sailing” may conjure up images of ferocious seas and a biting breeze, but it doesn’t have to be like that. There are many amazing adventures to have around the world whilst the UK plunges into yet another wet, dark and frosty winter.
1. RACE ACROSS THE ATLANTIC
By the end of November, the trade winds – which for centuries have been pushing sailors East-West across the Atlantic Ocean – are starting to settle. The Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC for short) annually help over 270 yachts and their crews take advantage of these fresh breezes to race over to the West Indies in time for Christmas. Crossing an ocean has to be the top of any bucket list, and where better to start then with the mighty Atlantic.

2. LIMING IN THE CARIBBEAN
Congratulations, you’ve made it over the pond! It may be winter in the Caribbean but it’s certainly not cold. With almost guaranteed winds and temperatures in the mid to high 20s, winter sailing in the Caribbean is idyllic. From rum shack hopping in the BVI, to discovering Cuba’s vibrant culture, to being literally blown off your feet at St. Martin’s Princess Juliana Airport. The Caribbean (and Kraken) have it covered.

3. NEW YEAR IN THE CANARY ISLES
Let’s go back across the Atlantic for this next one and sail in some European sun this New Year. With the Canary Islands as our playground we will spend this 8 day voyage sailing where the best winds take us. We will discover the different cultures and landscapes of the Islands and hope to see at least some of the vast array of marine life that swim in these waters.

4. SKIING & SAILING NORWAY
Now, stay with us on this one. We know that sailing up near the Arctic Circle in winter may sound nuts, but as the Norwegians transition out of winter and into early spring, the chance to combine both sailing AND skiing arises. Running between March and May, our Ski & Sail trip offer an adrenaline-charged, awe-inspiring adventure around the distinctively rugged coastlines of Norway’s Lofoten archipelago.

5. CHRISTMAS IN INDONESIA
The Raja Ampat Archipelago straddles the equator off the extreme northwest tip of the Papua province of Indonesia. Otherwise known as the ‘Last Paradise on Earth’, it is home to 70 percent of the known coral species on the planet. Many of the fish, corals and crustaceans that live in these waters are found nowhere else on Earth. A living kaleidoscope below the surface and a visual feast above it. Explore with us on board a traditional Ironwood Indonesian Pinisi this Christmas.
