Vessel Type

Classic Aluminium Ketch

A deep and secure aft-cockpit make her ideal for safe passages and comfortable cruising and there’s plenty of sunbathing space on the large open deck. The versatile ketch rig means she can be comfortably sailed short-handed but is equally well-suited to being pushed hard by a full race crew and is an exciting boat to sail for old-hands and novices alike. Furling headsails and slab-reef mizzen and main sail mean there is plenty to keep the crew busy.

Vessel Length

65 feet

Up to 10 guest in four cabins.

  • Two private double cabins and two twins. All en-suite.
  • Temporary bunks can be fitted in the double cabins to provide additional space (great for larger groups or those with young children).
  • The saloon and galley provide a great social area, with seating for 8 at the table and a meticulously appointed galley, perfect for preparing high quality meals.
  • Should you wish to secure a private berth (for one person) a single cabin supplement will apply to the price of the trip – currently standard price + 70%.

  • Accommodation aboard for the duration of the adventure
  • Professional skipper for the duration of the adventure
  • Sheets & bedding
  • Bath towels
  • Drinking water, teas & coffees

  • Travel to or from the vessel
  • On arrival you are required to pay a Communal Expenses Allowance (CEA), currently 15% of the full charter or adventure price. This is essentially a ‘boat kitty’ that covers variable expenses such as fuel, harbour water, food, non-alcoholic drinks and port fees. The CEA can then be used by your skipper to make payments during the charter without disturbing you, and serves as an available kitty for guests. Any remaining CEA is returned at the end of the charter, or if expenses incurred exceed the CEA collected, an additional expense is requested at the end of the charter.

Practical Info

  • Guests become part of the crew and the responsibility for provisioning is shared, based on the groups’ preferences (some adventures will feature more remote anchorages and cooking aboard, on other trips guests may prefer to eat ashore more often). There is certainly no better way to understand a region than by visiting the local food markets and seeing what fresh produce is being bought and sold.
  • Open to beginner sailors.

Trip details

Great writing is all about imagination and surprise and there’s no better way to free your mind than to escape to sea. From the birth of Western literature with The Odyssey, to contemporary narratives, the sea continues to inspire. For those who dream of being a writer, we’re offering the ultimate travel package to help unlock that potential.

As an active member of the crew – under the guidance of your professional skipper – you’ll explore this beautiful region on a custom-built yacht. Beginning in the beguiling city of Valencia, we’ll then enjoy an exciting passage to Ibiza before sailing from bay to bay, sleeping in peaceful Mediterranean anchorages and venturing ashore to explore the islands.

This adventure provides a unique chance to enjoy a truly different perspective as we look in on the land from our home at sea and comprises a week on-board a 65′ yacht with award-winning poet and playwright Adam Wyeth, author of three books The Art of Dying (2016), The Hidden World of Poetry: Unravelling Celtic Mythology in Contemporary Irish Poetry (2013) and Silent Music (2011).

The region, rich in history and myth, has been drawing writers for centuries. Adam has created a unique series of workshops with fun exercises and games, many of which will be inspired by the sea and mythology. With onshore visits to ancient sites and villages, there’ll be plenty of opportunity to fire up the imagination.

The atmosphere is inclusive and creative, and as intensive or laid back as participants wish to make it. The workshops are suitable for those with previous experience or complete beginners. Group sessions will be complemented by one-to-one tutorials. During your stay you’ll be an active crew member as we sail the Mediterranean.

We welcome up to eight guests, sleeping in two double & two twin cabins (all en-suite). A single cabin supplement is applicable for those wishing to secure a private space. The retreat includes 8 days & 7 nights aboard yacht KS and full creative writing programme. There will be plenty of free time to swim, snorkel, read, walk, explore, paint or do what it is you love to do.

Workshop exercises will include:

  • The art of speed writing or stream of consciousness writing.
  • Finding your voice.
  • Keeping it symbol: Exploring how symbolism can deepen your work.
  • Plotting and shaping a short story or novel.
  • Characterisation, conflict and angle.
  • Avoiding cliché and subverting it.
  • The importance of myth and giving it a modern twist.
  • Tackling poetry forms.
  • Looking at metaphor and simile.
  • Rewriting, editing, polishing.
  • Using literature as models and springboards for writing.

All you need is paper and pen and your imagination. As well as writing and sailing, there will be plenty of time for other activities: to swim, explore or simply relax.

Writer in Residence: Adam Wyeth

Drawing inspiration from these stunning locations, Adam will explore key writing topics, including general hints and tips, plot development, characterisation, sensory perception in descriptive writing and the role of metaphor and myth, to name a few. The workshop will be conducted through a series of group sessions and one-to-one tutorials, with Adam on-hand to help with any problems. Under his expert eye, participants will have the opportunity to explore style, ideas and development.
