Dreaming of Dubrovnik – Sicily & Southern Italy to Croatia
Join at Milazzo, Sicily
Leave from Dubrovnik, Croatia
Anchor in Taormina bay, in the shadow of Mount Etna and venture ashore to explore this most iconic of Sicilian summer destinations.
Life at sea
Experience the rhythm and solitude of off-shore sailing and night passaging as we sail out into the Ionian and across the ball and heel of Italy’s boot.
Moor alongside the fishing fleet in Otranto and perhaps secure a purchase straight from the pot, before heading ashore to explore the stunning floor mosiacs of the town’s Romanesque cathedral.
Byron’s ‘pearl of the Adriatic’, despite the crowds, is simply sublime in its beauty and setting. The perfect end to an epic voyage and the ideal launch pad for those going on to explore Croatia further.
Sail from Sicily to Croatia, via the Aeolian Islands, coastal Calabria and Puglia, then onto southern Dalmatia. This exciting and varied sailing programme, covering nearly 600 nautical miles will take in some of Italy’s most stunning coastal scenery, before crossing the Adriatic sea and making landfall at the historic and impossibly picturesque city of Dubrovnik.
Be part of the yacht’s crew on this stunning voyage, standing watch on night passages, assisting with navigation, provisioning and sailing the boat, as we explore this fascinating region of Mediterranean Europe. No previous experience is required, but an appetite for adventure and good sense of humour are essential!
What follows is a idea of what may unfold. However, expect the unexpected and prepare to be flexible.
Join the boat in Milazzo, meet your skipper, crew and shipmates and make yourself comfortable. Explore the old town and enjoy a Sicilian dinner ashore.
Sail north to Vulcano or Lipari and marvel at this stunning volcanic archipelago, from your unrivalled vantage point. Perhaps take time for a swim or snorkel and a trip ashore before settling down for our first night at anchor.
Up early for a long coastal passage through the Straits of Messina, home of the irresistible monsters Scylla and Charybdis in Homer’s Odyssey, and onwards south to Taormina bay. Enjoy an evening in this iconic and oh-so beautiful Italian resort town.
Depart Sicily and venture out into the Ionian for an exciting voyage around the South Coast of Italy. Expect shooting stars, challenging mealtimes and a whole new sleep pattern!
Arrive in Otranto. Explore the town, walk the fortified walls and discover one of Italy’s most extraordinary cathedrals with its stunning mosaic floor and altar of human skulls.
