At just before 0100GMT on 12 Feb 2021 British solo ocean racer, Pip Hare, crossed the Vendée Globe finish line off Les Sables-d’Olonne in France. Completing her non-stop solo circumnavigation in 95 days, 11hrs and 37min 30sec – just shy of Dame Ellen MacArthur’s longstanding record, set in 2001.
This amazing achievement was built from very humble beginnings. Racing a chartered yacht built in 1999, with minimal seed funding, she pitted herself against (and has now beaten many) competitors with multi-million-pound campaigns on state of the art, foiling yachts. A testament to Pip’s resilience, fierce competitiveness and exceptional seamanship. And also to her brilliant team of supporters and sponsors. What a race!
In a year when we have all missed feeling part of the action, Pip let us join her race from afar. Throughout her campaign, Pip shared the highs, lows and everything in between in her uniquely down to earth manner. Thank you, Pip.
