Day 2 – Sailing to Ylvingen

This morning we’ll start with a brief on the area, the crew, and the plan for the week. We’ll then go through safety information and our routines. Before we set sail, a basic theory course on sailing and safety will be given. At noon we sail for our first destination; the “Blue Sky island”, Ylvingen, where we’ll start off the week with a boat-house party and good food on the grill. B/L/D

Day 3 – Sail into the kingdom of islands

Possibilities of hiking on the island, go kayaking, windsurfing, or small-boat sailing on our classical North-land boat. You may also easily catch some fish for lunch. After lunch enjoy an easy afternoon or more activities before we set sails heading for Nes, Vega, which is the entering port of the World Heritage Area of the Vega Islands. B/L/D

Day 4 – Walk and lunch at Vega Ocean Hotel

In the morning you may start the day visiting the Eider bird museum for a guided talk on the art of eider bird farming, and the World Heritage area of the Vega Islands with its’ long traditions for sustainable living and hunting in rough surroundings. After lunch at Vega Ocean Hotel, we head for Hysvær amongst the outer islands. Some of us may go by kayaks, some by sail, while we move together with the birds. At Hysvær we’ll fish our own fish, and prepare them later on in the evening on board. Depending on the weather, we may venture out to the islands of Skjærvær, the outermost islands before Iceland.

Day 5 – Full day of sailing towards the mountains

Full day of sailing heading for the Seven Sister’s Mountain. On the way we’ll make room for a shortstop at Lånan for lunch. In the evening we moor in the harbour of Søvikvågen, and prepare ourselves for a hike to the tops of Seven Sister’s early next morning. B/L/D

Day 6 – Hike on the Seven Sisters

Hike to the tops of the Seven Sisters. Early up, we’ll head up to Stortinden 1050 meters high, where we’ll eat lunch with a fantastic view overlooking the kingdom of isles. Some may proceed to the second top; Kvasstinden, while the most adventurous will hike all the seven tops to Botnkrona in the north. In the afternoon we’ll set sail northwards heading for Sandnessjøen, preparing for the Træna Ocean Race starting next morning. B/L/D

Day 7 – Træna Ocean Race

Træna Ocean Race, from Sandnessjøen to Træna for the music festival. Here we are talking about teamwork and racing all day. Arrival at Træna in the evening. There is no better way to neither arrive nor start a festival than by way of a sailing race; in the same spirit as the Vikings entered harbours in the old days. B/L/D

Day 8 – Festival at Træna

Music and festival life at Trena. Before the concerts start at seven pm there will be possibilities for sailing around the islands, fishing, eagle-safari, kayaking and “land crab” activities onshore. Just to enjoy the festival, make food and drink beer is another option. B/L/-

Day 9 – Music on the islands

In the morning, a boat-trip to Senna for the traditional, but modern concert in Kirkehelleren. In the afternoon we’ll make and eat the Captains Tuna on Sail, and conclude the trip with the official unofficial yacht Awards ceremony! B/L/D

Day 10 – Thank you! – for now

End of the trip. We tidy the boat and our gear, and say thanks for now. Those ending their trip here return to the mainland by RIB, ferry, fishing vessels, or taxi-boat; to Sandnessjøen, Bodø or Nesna. B/-/-
