Hone your skills and immerse yourself in life onboard a high-performance ‘Volvo Open 70’ racing yacht, in this weekend trip across the English Channel

2 Nights: Various dates June - September

£375 per person

Experience the thrill of sailing an elite racing yacht around the English Channel on this exciting weekend adventure. From Portsmouth to France and back again, you will gather pace as you immerse yourself in life as an important member of the crew. From navigation to helming, with practice in trimming, grinding and foredeck, you can get as stuck in as you like on this exhilarating trip.

Over the course of the trip, you will be given world-class coaching from a pro crew, with the opportunity to enhance your skills in every job onboard this iconic offshore racing machine. This yacht was raced as team “Telefonica Black” in the 2008/09 Volvo Ocean race, famously winning the final stage of the round the world race in a spectacular fashion.

Push your comfort zone for a truly genuine experience of life as an elite ocean racer, with basic race yacht accommodation: the trade-off for an invigorating ride around the English Channel. Whether you are a novice sailor or more experienced, this trip promises to get your adrenaline pumping, as you fully immerse yourself in the world of offshore, improving your racing skills and working as a team with your new crewmates.

Join the yacht at Gunwharf Quays at 1900h on Friday for your safety briefing and a quick boat tour before bedding down. On Saturday morning, you’ll be up early for a spot of training, then (if the weather is right) we’ll leave the protected water of the Solent, for the English Channel. Pointing at France we’ll gather pace and you’ll have the opportunity to try multiple roles on board, including, helming, grinding, pit and bow. In France, you’ll enjoy a night alongside before turning back across the channel for hopefully some great downwind sailing.

  • A place on the race crew
  • Professional Race Skipper and four additional professional crew
  • Food, fuel, race entry and mooring fees
  • Wet weather gear
  • Travel to or from the boats
  • Food ashore
  • Some sailing experience is required.
  • A good level of fitness recommended.
