Experience Norway as you have never experienced it before as you ski and sail through the fjords of the north
7 nights: Various dates April - May 2021
23,500 NOK /£2,059 per person*
Experience the most breathtakingly raw nature Norway has to offer as you ski and sail through the arctic landscape of the northern fjords.
Famous for its alpine mountains and peaks, the possibilities are endless as you ski natural pistes, descending from up to 1000 meters all the way down to the beach. For those of you who seek a more challenging holiday and love the idea of alpine skiing and randonné in untouched northern Norway, whatever your skill level, this adventure is for you.
With many of the mountains reachable by boat only, you will experience the wild, breathtaking beauty of Norway from this unique vantage point, sailing from mountain to piste with your fellow adventurers.
This is an active trip, whether it’s behind the helm or with skis strapped to your feet. For most of the trips, two boats will sail together and each boat has the luxury of a ski guide on board.
Day 1:
Meet in Alta harbour at 4pm to get settled on the boat and get to know your fellow crew. Following a safety brief, you will cast off towards a natural harbor where you will spend the night at anchor. Be prepared to eat quite late on the move or at anchor.
Day 2 – 4: Ascensions in the fjords surrounding Øksfjordjøkelen
The great peninsula surrounding the Øksfjord-glacier will not be available for ascensions on skis, but on the boat you will be able to enter the fjords and wherever else we might want to, with the possibility of climbing the glacier. The skipper may even let you off in one fjord and pick you up in the next!
Day 5-6: Nordleangen / Kågen or Arnøya
The northern tip of the Lyngen peninsula is the perfect starting point for many of the summits in the Lyngen alps. You will wake up by either Arnøya or Store Kågtind on these days, both peaks with beautiful views over the entire Lyngen area. Once you have finished your trip for the day, dinner will be cooked before you continue to sail west, anchoring for the night at your next location.
Day 7: Final Summit closer to Tromsø – Ullstinden
Setting sail to head south in the morning, you will approach the mountain of Ullstinden. At 1093 meters above sea level, it will be the first peak you climb. You will be set ashore on the east side to ski down on the west side. Once you have finished exploring the summit, you will set sail towards Tromsø, aiming to dock before dinner. There will be the opportunity to have dinner and party in Tromsø for those who want to.
Day 8: Breakfast and departure
Breakfast will be provided on board and you can say your goodbyes before you either head home or explore more of Tromsø, this cultural hub of a town, with its centuries old wooden houses and arctic cathedral.
The program
The program may change according to weather and conditions, but the itinerary gives an indication of how the days will be spent. Every day starts with a good breakfast and a packed lunch will be made before going ashore. Some days dinner will be eaten straight after skiing while other days you will eat a little when you return to the boat, and then sail on before eating a late dinner. According to forecast and preference of you and your crew, time can be spent fishing, sailing and exploring.
Travel
Check sas.no or wideoe.no for flights to Svolvær. If you get to Bodø you may take the ferry or fast ferry over to Lofoten. See the public itinerary here: www.177nordland.no. You may also perfectly well take the train to Bodø. Travelling slowly gives another dimension to a journey than flying. If you’re travelling from a city in the north or wish to extend your journey with a day or two, you can consider doing so on Hurtigruten.
Take an internal flight to Svolvær.
