The sun is back and shining 24 hours a day, wildlife is thriving and the snow-conditions are perfect, so join the yacht here for a fantastic ski and sail adventure.
Fjords, mountains and vast wilderness areas are still untouched by human activity here even now. From sea ice to glaciers and snow, you will be able to hike and ski up and down mountains and natural pistes in this stunning arctic landscape.
On this week-long trip, you will have time to navigate your way out of the Isfjord basin and up along the north-west coast of the island Spitsbergen and into the majestic fjords abundant in this area. Experience the incredible fjords of Kongsfjorden, Krossfjorden and Magdalenafjorden as you keep your eye out for polar fox, seals, birds, reindeer and polar bears.
With many of the mountains reachable by boat only, you will experience the wild, breathtaking beauty of Svalbard from this unique vantage point, sailing from mountain to piste with your fellow adventurers. With you on board will be a certified ski-guide with several years of experience in Svalbard, so you will be able to learn as you go. After a day’s hike and sail, you can relax in the warm boat with good food and great company before you sail to the next fjord, harbour or anchorage.
Day 1: Meet the yacht in Longyearbyen harbour at 10am to get settled on the boat and get to know your crew. You will be given a safety brief before setting sail, eating dinner on your way out of the fjord. The aim is to get your first ski hike of the trip in.
Day 2: Ski touring in outer Isfjorden
Spend the day exploring the most famous and visited fjord in Svalbard. Isfjorden and others in this fjord system are home to the towns of Longyearbyen, Barentsburg and Pyramiden, as well as smaller abandoned places. The fjord is surrounded by great mountains for skiing, so before you sail north, you will go for a hike or two around this stunning landscape.
Day 3-4: Kongsfjorden (Kings Bay), Krossfjorden, Magdalenafjorden
These days are spent in the magnificent fjords on the north-west coast of the Spitsbergen island, with ski touring and sailing, good meals and spectacular wilderness.
Day 5: Sailing back home towards Longyearbyen
Travelling south, you will stop for a ski tour along the way if there is time. The aim is to visit Barentsburg and finish the day with dinner in Longyearbyen.
Day 6 – Home time
After breakfast you will leave the boat and say goodbye to your fellow adventurers. Head home or stay to explore the little multicultural Arctic hub of Longyearbyen.
The program
The program may change according to weather and conditions, but the itinerary gives an indication of how the days will be spent. Every day starts with a good breakfast and a packed lunch will be made before going ashore. Some days dinner will be eaten straight after skiing while other days you will eat a little when you return to the boat, and then sail on before eating a late dinner. According to forecast and preference of you and your crew, time can be spent fishing, sailing and exploring.
Travel
Check sas.no or wideoe.no for flights to Svolvær. If you get to Bodø you may take the ferry or fast ferry over to Lofoten. See the public itinerary here: www.177nordland.no. You may also perfectly well take the train to Bodø. Travelling slowly gives another dimension to a journey than flying. If you’re travelling from a city in the north or wish to extend your journey with a day or two, you can consider doing so on Hurtigruten.
Take an internal flight to Svolvær.
