Famous for its alpine mountains, the possibilities are endless as you venture through fjords, experiencing the hidden corners of this stunning coastline from the unique vantage point your yacht. Getting close to nature, you will experience the local culture, rich wildlife and stunning Arctic scenery, all from your mobile base.
With opportunities aplenty for exploring onshore as well as offshore, this trip can be as active or as relaxed as you want to make it. Hike, climb, fish, kayak, paddle, swim, or cosy up on the boat and read a great book. Sailing from the beach to mountain, to village, you can improve your skills on board while immersing yourself in this unforgettable adventure.
Day 1 – Meet at Træna
Meet at the yacht at 4pm to familiarise yourself with the boat and meet the crew.
Day 2 – Sail towards the mountains and Svartisen
After breakfast, following a safety briefing, you will cast off and practice boat handling and safety in the harbour basin. After an introduction to basic sailing theory, you will hoist sails and sail towards Holandsfjord. In Engavågen you will moor alongside the quay and prepare for your summit hike next morning. If you like, you can start hiking up in the evening and stay overnight in the DNT cabin Tåkeheimen on the mountain.
Day 3 – Mountain hike to Helgelandsbukken, Tåkeheimen or glacier hike on Svartisen
Those who have stayed in the mountains will start the day with a trip up to Tåkeheimen for a view over Helgeland and Svartisen. There is then the possibility of a guided glacier hike and course on the actual glacier for those who want it. When everyone is back safely from the mountains, you will sail out to the coast again, to Rødøy. Eating dinner as you go, when arriving at Rødøy, you will either do an evening visit to a nearby attraction, or a midnight sun evening walk up to Rødøyløva.
Day 4 – Morning hike to Rødøyløva, evening visit to Fleinvær and sailing across the Vestfjord
After breakfast and a morning hike on Rødøya you will continue north to the islands of Fleinvær, outside Bodø, sailing past stunning islands and reefs, including Bolga and Støtt. At Fleinvær you will have a small guided tour and a surprise, before setting sails and crossing the Vestfjord with course for Reine on the far east of Lofoten. This crossing is over 100 nautical miles and will take 10-20 hours depending on the weather.
Day 5 – Beach day at Bunes
Arriving at Reine in the morning, you can have a pirate breakfast upon arrival. After resting and a stretch on land, you will sail under the bridge on low tide and into Reinefjorden for an excursion to the Bunes beach.This afternoon you will bonfire and dinner on the beach, or climb to the summit of “Hell peak” if you feel like it. In the evening you will set sail to Nusfjord, mooring alongside the quay for the night.
Day 6 – Summit hike to Mosestind and surfing in Unstad
Spend the morning in Nusfjord before hiking up to Mosestind for a fantastic view over the Vestfjord. If you would like to try out surfing, this is the day to do it. Transport can be arranged to Unstad, where you can rent equipment for your adventure in the waves. In the afternoon you can relax and enjoy life with the sauna and hot tub in Nusfjord, and eat a relaxed dinner at the local restaurant “Karoline”.
Day 7 – Sail towards Henningsvær and goodbye dinner at Trevarefabrikken
After breakfast in Nusfjord, the last stretch goes to Henningsvær, also this one of Lofoten’s most spectacular fishing villages. After sailing for a whole week, now it’s time for a regatta from Nusfjord to Henningsvær, competing with the other boats. This last evening we will have some good fun with dinner on land at the Trevarefabrikken in Henningsvær.
Day 8: Check out from Svolvær
This morning consists of an early breakfast and tidying the boat before heading home or exploring more of the area.
