Immerse yourself in the breathtaking nature of Norway as you sail through the stunning arctic landscape of Vega, passing thousands of islands, islets and reefs and experiencing some of the best places this archipelago has to offer.
This island-hopping trip to Træna has become a legendary summer adventure, with around eight boats sailing together each year. For ten days you will navigate through the landscape, hiking a mountain range, fishing for fresh food, taking part in an ocean race and finally, attending the beautiful Træna Music Festival with your new friends.
With opportunities aplenty for exploring onshore as well as offshore, this trip can be as active or as relaxed as you want to make it. Hike, climb, fish, kayak, paddle, swim, or cosy up on the boat and read a great book. Sailing from beach to mountain to village, you can improve your skills on board while immersing yourself in this unforgettable adventure.
Day 1: Meet in Brønnøysund
Meet at the yacht from 6pm at Brønnøysund to familiarise yourself with the boat and meet the crew. Dinner will be served onboard before a good night’s sleep to start your journey.
Day 2: Sailing to Ylvingen
Starting with a brief on the area, the crew, and the plan for the week you will then have a safety brief before setting sail. Following a basic theory course on sailing, at noon you will sail to the “Blue Sky island”, Ylvingen, where you will start the week off with a boat-house party and good food on the grill.
Day 3: Sail into the kingdom of islands
Today there are countless possibilities for adventure. Go hiking on the island, kayak in your arctic surroundings, windsurf, catch fish for lunch or try small-boat sailing on a classical North-land boat. Following this active day, you will set sail for Nes,the first port of the World Heritage Area of the Vega archipelago.
Day 4: Walk and lunch at Vega Ocean Hotel
Start the day with a visit to the Eider bird museum for a talk on the art of eider bird farming, and the traditions of sustainable living and hunting. Depending on the weather, you may venture out to the islands of Skjærvær, the outermost islands before Iceland.
Day 5: Full day of sailing towards the mountains

Travel
Check sas.no or wideoe.no for flights to Svolvær. If you get to Bodø you may take the ferry or fast ferry over to Lofoten. See the public itinerary here: www.177nordland.no. You may also perfectly well take the train to Bodø. Travelling slowly gives another dimension to a journey than flying. If you’re travelling from a city in the north or wish to extend your journey with a day or two, you can consider doing so on Hurtigruten.
Take an internal flight to Svolvær.
