Cross 1,500nm of open ocean between New Zealand and Australia
10 nights: 22 Nov - 04 Dec 2022
Price: £4,535 per person
From Auckland, New Zealand to Southport, Queensland, Australia, this ocean voyage includes a stopover at Elizabeth Reef and a circumnavigation of Middleton Reef, one of the world's most southern platforms reefs. It's a great chance to cross the Tasman Sea.
Located in the Tasman Sea, these 6nm-long reefs are both visible at low tide. They've wrecked more than 70 ships in the past 100 years, and some of the wrecks are still visible. We'll sail from North Cape to Elizabeth Reef, where we'll anchor and go ashore on Elizabeth Island, a sand island inside a platform reef that floods at high tide. Just imagine being on an island 300nm off the East Coast of Australia with only the Tasman Sea in your sight!
With no land between Australia/New Zealand and Antarctica; 1,000nm to the south, the ocean swell can build in height without stopping for more than 2,500nm until it reaches the Pacific Islands. The Tasman Sea's ever-changing weather system is one of the reasons why more people have climbed Mount Everest than sailed across it.
