Journey up the east coast of Britain aboard the luxury 57' Oyster. Although the experience is suitable for all, it may be of particular interest to sailors seeking to log sea miles toward the Yachtmaster qualification and gain practical experience in passage planning and pilotage.

12 nights: 22 April - 4 May 2023

From £1,880 per person

There will be three qualifying passages of at least 60 miles, night sails, anchorages, and numerous marinas to approach on this trip. You'll have a Yachtmaster Instructor both theoretical and practical on board, along with a yacht equipped with the latest navigation, communication, and safety systems you'd need for a round-the-world cruise. Learn about the amazing capabilities that technology has to offer, but let us also demonstrate, if you wish, how to navigate using a sextant, a Walker log, and paper charts. Lastly, make the most of the comforts rarely afforded on such a trip as you take in the sights of the East coast of England and Scotland.

Navigation Training

Through the short and longer passages, including night sails, you can practice and further develop your navigation skills. An YMI instructor may provide a different approach to remove stress and issues when planning a longer passage.  We will look at paper charts and tidal stream atlases as well as electronic charts and aids to the best of our ability. Spending more time enjoying the sailing than spending it hunched over a chart table missing out on the fun when sailing offshore.

Pilotage

We will have several opportunities to gain new pilotage skills with day and night entries into harbours and anchoring at Holy Island. Using both traditional methods and electronic aids, we will demonstrate what works and what does not when developing pilotage plans.

Oyster 56

is a 2007 Oyster 56  A luxury 57ft sailing yacht designed by Rob Humphries. The 56 is perhaps the quintessential Oyster design and was the undisputed class leader at this size for more than a decade.

The key to her success is her size; large enough for rapid ocean cruising and to accommodate her crew and guests in comfort and style when living aboard, but easy to handle.

A spacious deck layout, large secure cockpit area and wide side decks make for comfortable and safe cruising and there are plenty of places to relax on deck.

The interior arrangement provides 3 separate cabins for guests. There is one double cabin, and two twin cabins, one forward and one aft. There is a day head midships for use by all guests and the large bright saloon offers plenty of room for relaxing in comfort. All creature comforts can be found on board: heating, air conditioning and fully covered cockpit if it is cold.  The guests separate shower stall and quiet flush electric toilet makes it feel a little more like home.

The Oyster 56 is a proven performer, with many ocean crossings and circumnavigations to her credit. She has had class wins in the ARC and has also won Cruising Class 1 at Antigua Sailing Week, beating several more serious racing yachts. She is a superb sea boat and remains very well regarded by all her fortunate owners.
