The annual Round the Island Race, which started back in 1930, is organized by the Island Sailing Club. It is a one-day yacht race around the Isle of Wight, situated off the south coast of England.

2 Days: 30 June - 01 July 2023

Price: £650 per person

The race regularly attracts over 1,400 boats and around 15,000 sailors, making it one of the largest yacht races in the world. It is also the fourth largest participation sporting event in the UK after the London Marathon and the Great North and South Runs.

Yet again, the Round the Island race will be one of the most eagerly anticipated racing events of the UK racing season. The RTI race will be held on Saturday, July 1st, 2023 and our full race package includes a training day on Friday, June 30th; making this a 2-day event. With the race organizers expecting this to be another bumper year of entries we are certainly looking forward to welcoming crews and to introduce the sport of yacht racing to many more people. With the largest participation numbers for a UK sporting event, this is a great introduction to the world of yacht racing here in the UK where you can share the race course with professionals and some of the most advanced racing yachts currently out there. Some of the fastest ocean racers compete alongside super maxis and ocean racing catamarans, racing yachts, and fast sailing cruisers all battling for the Gold Roman Bowl in the annual Round the Island Race. Records are always looking to be broken and it's often the smallest yacht out on the course that takes the honours.

The town of Cowes, the yachting capital of England, pulls out all the stops for the Round the Island Race with some fantastic sailing and social events, ensuring a great atmosphere from the pre-race party to the post-race celebrations for race crews as well as families following ashore.

PLEASE NOTE: Accommodation isn't provided for the trip.

The boats cross the start line at Cowes in eleven separate groups, starting every 10 minutes from 0630 until 0810 and heading in a westerly direction towards Yarmouth. The boats pass around the Needles Lighthouse, along the southwest coast of the Island to St. Catherine’s Point and then up across Sandown Bay to round the Bembridge Ledge Buoy.
