Another classic RORC race takes you upwind from Cowes to Eddystone Lighthouse, off Plymouth

3 Nights: 01 - 04 June 2022

£1050 per person

Power from Cowes to Eddystone Lighthouse, off Plymouth. Then at the lighthouse turning around, popping up the spinnaker, sleigh riding back around the back of the Isle of Wight to finish with a short stitch beat back to Cowes. At 230nms, this is one of the longer RORC races of the season – some call it a Mini-Fastnet.

Over the passage, you will have the opportunity to helm, trim and grind! Don’t think this will be a luxury ride! Such a high-performance racing yacht does not come with many creature comforts. Cramped quarters, freeze-dried food and basic accommodation are the trade-off for a fast boat and the most exhilarating ride. We do it just as the elite ocean racers do so you truly get a genuine experience.

Start: Gunwharf Quay Marina 01 June 2022

Finish: Gunwharf Quay Marina, Portsmouth, 04 June 2022

As the race starts lunchtime on Thursday 2nd June (UK Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday), we’ll all meet in Gunwharf Quays on 1st June to prep the yacht and head out for some training in the Solent. That night we’ll eat together and after a good night’s sleep, we’ll head off to the start line off Cowes and race in a highly competitive fleet to Eddystone Lighthouse and back.

During this race, you’ll have the opportunity to try multiple roles on board, including, helming, grinding, pit and bow.

  • A place on the race crew
  • Professional Race Skipper and First Mate
  • Food, fuel, race entry and mooring fees
  • Travel to or from the boats
  • Food ashore
  • Some sailing experience is required.
  • A good level of fitness recommended.
