Training: 25 Mar - 27 March 2023
Regatta: 28 Mar - 02 April 2023
Join the iconic Volvo 70 in Tortola to take part in one of best sailing festivals in the world, BVI Spring Regatta
Please note: We require a minimum of eight berths to confirm that the trip will take place. This currently hasn't been fulfilled.
This weeklong event comprises of two events, BVI Sailing Festival and BVI Spring Regatta, with a lay day in between. Courses for both the Sailing festival and Spring Regatta comprise of windward/leeward courses in the Sir Francis Drake channel – perfect for a Volvo 70. With trade winds blowing in the late teens and temperatures in the high twenties, racing in the BVI couldn’t be better! To top it all off, 2023 is the 50th year of this iconic Caribbean event, so we’re expecting the already legendary shore entertainment to be epic.
The underwater ship was stripped down to its original hull filler in 2016 and rebuilt using Veneziani’s Speedy Carbonium. In 2018, she was repainted, had new hydro turf installed in the cockpit, and had a new mast installed. A new vinyl wrap was applied to her in 2019.
The team was captained by Ian Walker and finished the race in fifth place overall, scoring 63 points. The boat was designed by Reichel Pugh and built by McConaghy Boats.
The 2008–09 Volvo Ocean Race was a yacht race held between 4 October 2008 and 27 June 2009—the 10th edition of the round the world Volvo Ocean Race.
