Training – 04 – 07 January 2023

Join Volvo 70 Green Dragon on the 4th of January for the start of training however if you have work or family commitments you can join on the 5th if you would like. From the 4th-6th you will be doing on the water training and boat familiarisation along with crew safety. On the 7th January you will be helping prepare the boat with provisions and organising the boat before the start on the 8th.

Race Information

The prestigious RORC Transatlantic Race starts in Lanzarote and finishes in Grenada. It attracts the top race yachts from around the world to race after a busy European season over the Atlantic to kick start the competitive Caribbean season.

The race takes you across 2,700 miles of the Atlantic Ocean. As the race starts in January it takes advantage of the most consistent trade winds giving competitors optimum and exciting downwind sailing.

Technical Info

The underwater ship was stripped down to its original hull filler in 2016 and rebuilt using Veneziani’s Speedy Carbonium. In 2018, she was repainted, had new hydro turf installed in the cockpit, and had a new mast installed. A new vinyl wrap was applied to her in 2019.

Race History

The team was captained by Ian Walker and finished the race in fifth place overall, scoring 63 points. The boat was designed by Reichel Pugh and built by McConaghy Boats.

The 2008–09 Volvo Ocean Race was a yacht race held between 4 October 2008 and 27 June 2009—the 10th edition of the round the world Volvo Ocean Race.
