A: Kraken Travel is a web-based marketplace of trusted independent sailing operators we’ve hand-picked for you. Each operator lists their unique ocean-going adventure for you to browse and book online – from your smart phone, tablet or desktop.
Q: Are Kraken sailing trips suitable for solo travellers?
A: Generally, YES! Solo travellers may travel alone, but on arrival they become part of the crew. If a trip isn’t suitable for solo travellers you’ll find we will say so on the trip’s listing page.
Q: Do I need to have any sailing experience?
A: Generally, no – beginners are as welcome as experienced sailors on the majority of the trips we list. To be sure, read the description of your trip thoroughly; if particular sailing ability is required, it will be specified there.
Q: Will I be able to book my trip cheaper if I go to the operator directly?
A: No, not at all. At the time you book you’ll be paying the best price possible.
Q: How do I get there?
A: Each trip listing gives advice on how to get to and from your adventure. Usually, any travel to and from the vessel is your responsibility; we’ve teamed up with a global travel operator to make this easier for you. If you are unsure of anything regarding travel, please contact us to help you.
Q: Where do I find details of my booking?
A: Once you’ve booked your trip, we will email you your booking details immediately. If you haven’t received your confirmation email, please contact us as soon as possible on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q: How can I pay for my booking?
A: We accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express as well as direct bank transfer.
Q: Can I cancel a booking?
A: Each sailing operator has its own cancellation and refund rules. Please see our Deposit and Cancellation policy for further details.
Q: What about currency fluctuations?
A: Trips are priced in the operator’s local currency and we charge you a conversion to that amount correct at the day of charging. See Payments for more details.
Q: Do I need specialist sailing insurance?
A: Generally yes, but we recommend checking with your current travel insurer. We can also direct you to appropriate insurers who will be able to provide the right cover. Contact us for our recommendations.
Q: What do I need to wear?
A: Each trip listing has a suggested kit list. This is a good starting point, but you are welcome to bring additional kit.
Q: Can I bring a hard suitcase?
A: Ideally not. Space on boats is always limited and you don’t want to end up sharing you bunk with your suitcase! Soft luggage such as duffel bags and rucksacks are your best bet.
Q: How do I leave a review?
A: After you return from your trip we will send you a ‘Feedback’ email that you can respond to and rate your experience. The more reviews and feedback the better in today’s sharing economy, where trust is practically a currency.
