SAY NO TO SINGLE-USE PLASTICS THIS JULY

Kraken invites you to join in the global plastic-free July initiative.

By Robyn

As a company, Kraken was found with a strong focus on sustainability and respect for the environment. Sustainability is so important to the team, a sustainability programme was recently launched with plans of having it developed into a full-blown charitable foundation aimed at promoting accessibility and sustainability, through driving up standards in the industry and contributing directly to climate change projects.

However, you do not need to start a foundation to make an impactful change. Why not take on a personal challenge and join a global effort for the benefit of our planet?

Plastic Free July is a key initiative of the Plastic Free Foundation that allows individuals to work towards the vision of seeing a world free of plastic waste. From humble beginnings in 2011, the award-winning Plastic Free July campaign is the result of years of hard work.

It was started by Rebecca Prince-Ruiz (the founder of the Plastic Free Foundation) and a small team in local government in Western Australia, and is now one of the most influential environmental campaigns in the world. Millions of people across the globe take part every year, with many committing to reducing plastic pollution far beyond the month of July.

Taking part is simple. Start by saying not to just one single-use plastic product and add as you go. The following tips will help you on your journey:

  • Buy unpackaged products.
  • Start taking reusable bags along when you go shopping.
  • Forgo items like balloons and go plastic-free with your decorations.
  • Swap liquid soap for bar soap.
  • Use alternatives to clingwrap when packaging food.
  • Say no to plastic straws.
