The Round the Island Yacht Race is a challenging and exhilarating sailing event that takes place annually around the Isle of Wight on the South Coast.
Date: 14 - 16 June 2024
Price: £745 per person
Compete in the famous Round the Island Race sailing around the jewel of the UK's South Coast; the Isle of Wight. Test your skills and teamwork against Professional and Corinthian sailors in this thrilling and competitive annual event.
The race often sees a variety of conditions which means that boats of all shapes and sizes are in with a chance of winning the race with over 1,400 entries and 16,000 competitors. This makes it one of the largest sporting events in the country and one of the largest yacht races in the world.
The day long race itself is also only part of the appeal, Cowes and the Solent offer a fantastic bustling atmosphere with live music and beer tents. Cowes knows how to turn into a Festival venue and never disappoints!
Join the yacht on the mainland, in Hamble - just outside the City of Southampton, connected by great road, rail & air travel links. Onboard, the crew will aim to be very competitive in it's IRC class against many other identical boats and those of a similar speed.
It will also be chasing a podium place to be the first of the sailing schools' yachts over the finish line. Something that was achieved previously in 2019!
You can choose to sail back to the Hamble on Sunday, as part of a leisurely cruise, or depart from Cowes, on the Isle of Wight straight after the race or on Sunday morning.
Having competed in the Round the Island Race many times and, using our experience of what has worked well in the past, we have put together a two day package to ensure that your experience of this event will be as competitive as possible; with a training day included!
Meet in Hamble in the morning to get a full day of training around the Solent for the day and pick our tactics for the start line. Then either back to Hamble or over to Cowes for the evening and a team meal.
Early morning off the dock to make the start. The race can be as quick as 7 hours and as long as 12 depending on the weather. Back into Cowes for the night of celebrating
You can depart from Cowes directly or come for a chilled cruise back to Hamble maybe via Osbourne Bay for a picnic and a dip of the weather suits.
If you would like accommodation off the boat that must be arranged separately
Food or drinks ashore are at everyone’s own expense, we will put a shared kitty into drink on the dock after racing
Hamble, UK. Located just outside the City of Southampton with all major transport (road, rail & air) links. Closest airports: Southampton, London, (Heathrow) & (Gatwick). We suggest taxi transfer from Southampton if using public transport rather then using the local rail station which is some distance from the yacht base; on a slow rail service. Parking available on-site at yacht base.
You can choose to sail back to the yacht’s base in the Hamble and depart from there on Sunday; following a leisurely cruise or leave the boat in Cowes on the Isle of Wight on the Saturday night or Sunday morning. Red Funnel ferry links connect Cowes to Southampton (RedJet Hi-Speed foot passenger ferry between West Cowes & Southampton approx. 20 mins travel time). All major road, rail & air transport links from Southampton available.
